The clock heralds in a new day and The Morning Birds begin to sing. Waves of sound wash through the air asking for our attention to their song. And that’s not difficult, Jennifer Thorington and Samuel Markus write beautiful music together. Every moment and opportunity for melody is exploited with joyful results.
Their newest EP, Surrender to This, takes cues from Phil Spector’s “wall of sound” production approach. The songs are BIG. They spare no moments to impress their inherent beauty upon the listener. The opener “Yellow Moon” is an epic in the vein of great 1960’s psychedelia. Listen for the loads of reverb on the sweeping female vocals.
“Born to Be Alive” offers up lively, romping cabaret music with layers and layers of vocal tracks. The next song is a great blend of the two vocalists, which really thickens the pop instrumentation of “Your Heart.” This slow-tempo, long-form jam piles on the hooks and melodies.
The duo released a new video in October for “The Fox” it’s a really fun and utilizes animation to illuminate the nightly escapades of a promiscuous fox. In little over a month the two have achieved over 100,000 plays. Congrats!
Sam and Jennifer also provide PR, licensing and production services through their firm Working Brilliantly. The two have provided promotion for not only their releases, which include previous efforts Inspiration Point and The Quickening, but also albums by artists around North America.
